As We Gather

Without the truly good news of the Gospel, we cannot see the hard truth that we, and all people, are poor sinners who deserve nothing but punishment from almighty God. But the Gospel announces what is real and good: God has kept all His promises in our Savior Jesus Christ, granting us forgiveness and love. And by this love, we are free from the eternal consequence of sin. In Paul’s day, members of the Early Church thought freedom from God’s Law meant they could ignore it. But in our Epistle lesson for today, Paul starts to explain our relationship to the Law and our God, using the metaphor of a marriage. And we, as the bride of Christ, have a certain loving relationship with each other, more importantly, have a loving relationship with God, which impacts how we are to honor God’s law.
