Samuel was the last of the Judges, but he was much more than just a Judge. He was also a prophet, an intercessor, and a priest. That being said, you would think the book named for him would focus mainly on his life, however, the book focuses less on Samuel and more on how Israel moved from being a loosely affiliated band of tribes to a nation ruled by a king. One of whom would become the greatest king of Israel, an ancestor of Christ and a very important part of the plan.
